Balance

Balance is defined as a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc. Balance can also be something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise, mental steadiness or emotional stability, habit of calm behavior, judgment... we could go on and on.

It is a concept that we are reminded of every day. Are we balancing our work and home life? Are we balancing what we eat? Are we balancing how we react to our children? Do we have a balanced exercise regimen? Have we balanced the checkbook this month??? The list can go on and on.

Balance is something we all strive for. Sometimes we accomplish it. Sometimes we don’t. One of our goals at yogees yoga 4 kids is to encourage each of our little (and not so little) yogis, to take time for themselves. Even a child as young as 5 years old, for example, needs time to “check out;” or "check in", Yoga allows for that time to be in the moment, in the breath, in the body, and it’s just one of the reasons why we believe yoga is so important. Adding just a little bit of yoga to your life can help you achieve some balance.

Introducing yoga into your daily routine does not necessarily mean doing 108 sun salutations every day (though how awesome would that be??!). It could simply mean taking an after school yoga class once per week, resting in child’s pose for 2-3 minutes, or laying in Savasana and focusing on the breath moving in and out for 5 minutes. It doesn’t have to look a certain way. It just has to be. That is how you achieve balance; or at least start to.

See you on your mat.
